Catch this thief!
A young burglar is on a early-morning smash and grab rampage through Ellerslie, causing thousands of dollars of damage and so far the police have not been able to get to the scenes of his raids quick enough to catch him.
Do you recognize him in this photo? If you know who he is the Mount Wellington police would like to hear from you.
He has broken into the Ellerslie YMCA nine time in the last month! That’s annoying and expensive.
Chris Laing, recreation manager at the YMCA says, “He is apparently an Ellerslie local based around the Michael’s Avenue Reserve area. Please phone us on 579 4716 if you think you may know who he is. He moves around the community on a bicycle so keep your eyes out.”

Our solution for the rising crime rate in Ellerslie
Since our community constable, Sarah Johnston, was withdrawn from manning her office in the Ellerslie War Memorial Hall crime has slowly risen in Ellerslie.
The New Zealand Police allocated an officer for Ellerslie based in Onehunga. Gradually, over time, the police have lost touch with the inhabitants of our area who give rise to crime in our suburb. Your ERA committee have been in correspondence with MP Sam Lotu-Iiga and police minister, Judith Collins, requesting the reinstatement of a community constable to man our office from 3pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday, each week.

Liston Park
The ERA committee is calling for suggestions for the use of a renovated club room facility at Liston Park.
Colin Davis, the new chair of the Orakei Local Board, is fully committed to the effective use of Liston Park so residents have access to a wide variety of recreational pursuits to mitigate the increasing intensification of our suburbs.
Please email us your suggestions, by the end of January 2017, for the use of the park and its renovated facilities.
Park and Ride
The ERA committee will be presenting a proposal for a bicycle and motor bike Park and Ride facility at the Ellerslie Railway Station to the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board at their next meeting.
Auckland Transport, Auckland Council and NZTA will also need to be involved in the implementation of this proposal. The ERA committee believes that this “Green” initiative will enable Ellerslie residents purchasing electric powered bicycles to ride them to the railway station and leave them in a safe parking area while they commute on our great new electric rail service. Residents in areas of Ellerslie such as Celtic Crescent, Barratt Road and Michaels Avenue will be able to more readily access rail transport.
This proposal may eliminate the need to have feeder bus services to the railway station like the feeder bus service that has been implemented in Stonefields to get commuters to the Glen Innes. In preparation for the CRL, easier access for commuters to rail transport will enhance the opportunity and investment in the CRL.
